Using AMSOIL Diesel Injector Clean in heating oil

How to use AMSOIL Diesel Injector Clean, (product code ADF) as a heating oil improver.

Home heating oil is also known as #2fuel-oil, or furnace oil. ADF provides fuel oil storage stability, corrosion protection, and filter longevity; its exceptional cleaning properties help keep burner nozzles clean for proper spray.

I treat my heating oil at the rate of one ounce of AMSOIL Diesel Injector Clean to five gallons of heating oil. For the first treatment, I added one half gallon of ADF to the 30 year old, 275 gallon tank and had it filled with heating oil. Then at every heating oil delivery I would add the appropriate amount of ADF. For example, for a 160 gallon delivery I would add 32 ounces of ADF. This is the third year of treating the fuel. Prior to treating my heating oil with AMSOIL Diesel Injector Clean, the fuel filter would have a good coating of sludge on it by the time the annual service was due. Now, other than the darker color of the used filter, you can still see the felt material that the filter is made from. Among other container sizes, AMSOIL ADF is available in 16 ounce bottles that treat up to 80 gallons and half gallons (64 ounce) bottles that treat up to 320 gallons.

Attached are photos of a heating oil tank and fuel filter housing, a new filter element (left) and the used filter element (right). The used filter had been in service for one year. During that time, about 800 gallons of #2 heating oil have flowed through that filter. This filter is clean enough to allow for continued usage.
